FAQ's about Volunteering!
Because it's fun! There's a wide variety of reasons why our volunteers choose to help. Some want to socialize, have fun, to make new friends, test leadership skills, learn something new, share a skill/talent, to have an impact, to get to know & feel a part of the community, and/or all of the above! Whatever the reason you choose to volunteer, we appreciate you!
Anything you volunteer for requires a background clearance. This must be done each school year. For more specifics, see the RI BCI website. We also need you to fill this volunteer packet. Once you have your clearance and packet turned in, you can sign up for any volunteer opportunities!
Yes! We encourage all parents, guardians, and GCS community members to come to meetings. We discuss PTO events and the Principals provide a school update. You can learn a lot at a PTO meeting! Meetings are generally held the third Thursday of the month in the evenings. Check the bulldog bulletin for the next one. We'd love to meet you!
No! We promise we will not assign you a job, but you might want one after you hear the exciting things that we’re doing and how much of an impact you can make on the school. We also want to hear ideas and suggestions from everyone!
No worries, at all! Reach out! Let us know how you'd like to help, and what you'd like to do and we'll work to put your skills to tasks you could do at home. You're welcome to contact anyone on the board, we're all happy to help! Here's a quick form that will help us help you to volunteer!
Why, thanks, yes, it is a lot of work, but even more fun! It's the best way to meet and make friends with other parents. The easiest way to get involved is to ask someone who's already involved. You can always contact any of our PTO Board Members. We can find something for every skill and time commitment. PTO jobs range from large to small, with consistent commitments to seasonal commitments, and everything in between!
